Hey Guys,
Sorry that I have been out of communication. I do not have any access to the internet up where I am working. I am down in Nairobi right now while we are resupplying. This internet place is eating my money and we have a lot to do today to get ready to return north so i do not have much time. In a nut shell the work is going well. I am learning so much and making some good friends. I will have to expand more later. I will be here for three more months and then will be returning back to the US. Thanks for you prayers.

Back in Africa

Boy is it good to be back in Africa. We made to Kenya ok. All out bags came through. The trip was long but then I guess they always are. Fortunately with the troubles in Kenya the flight into Kenya was almost empty so we each had a full row to spread out in and sleep for that leg. Jim, Jade and I were supposed to fly up to Loiy the next morning but the plane had to stop at a high altitude strip on the way and we could not get it light enough so I ended up staying behind here in Nairobi with Caleb, a friend of mine that I went to high school with and now works for AIM AIR. It has been kind of nice to see him again as well as some of the SIM crew here in Kenya that I know. It has worked out kind of nice. Saturday Caleb and I went up to RVA. SIM has a doctor up there that is part of the SIM Sudan team. TMM helped them to get two 4 wheelers that they will take up to Sudan as soon as the strip up there dries out enough to land a DC-3 on. We had gone up there a few months ago to help assemble the 4 wheelers. This time Caleb and I went up to design a little trailer to pull behind one of them so that a local welder could fabricate and build it. That was kind of a fun little project. At the crack of dawn Monday morning I am scheduled to head up to Loiy on a 210. Sounds like I am going to have to hit the ground running up there. That is the way that I like it. There is a lot to get done. I am looking forward to getting involved.

Well that is it for now. I need to get some other stuff done. I will not have any Internet access up in the desert so I don't expect to be able to update this much.

Good Memories with Friends

So this is what happens when you stick a bunch of missionary kids in college together and tell them to study. We will find some kind of adventure. This particular one happened to include a flooded river and 5 trucks and way to many MKs in one spot.   =]

(for those of you that don't know this was back in 2004. Paul was trying to get his truck to a place that he could pull my truck out from where I got stuck trying to pull Nathan's stuck truck out. This was all during a flood. Where Paul's truck is in this picture was dry land an hour earlier. we did end up getting all the trucks out )

Africa, Deserts, Friends

Dear Friends,
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” Over the years my paths have taken me all over the world. As I sit here I can’t help but to think about how God is shaping and teaching me things with a specific purpose in mind. I came from the bush in Liberia through the farm in Kansas to the battlefields of Iraq and on to my time in the Sudan. Though each of these places has had its difficulties as well as its pleasures I have made many friends and learned a few lessons about myself and about the God that I serve. While I still have a lot to learn and I do not know exactly what God has in store for my life I do believe that He has a plan.

In college I met Paul Teasdale, a fellow MK, and became good friends with him. During the course of our friendship I met the rest of his family. Last year while I was working in Sudan, I had the privilege to visit Paul and his family for two weeks at their mission station in Northern Kenya. Late last year Jim Teasdale, Paul’s father, asked me to consider coming out to Kenya for six months to help him out with some projects that he is swamped with. At the time I regretfully turned down the request. I was trying to strategically plan my life in a way that made the most sense to me and that six months did not fit those plans. Since then I have been back in the US trying to figure out how to make those plans work and they just seem to not be happening. Over the last two weeks or so a series of things have gone on that got me to wondering about where God wanted me and if I was headed in the right direction. I have spent a lot of time talking to friends that are wiser than me and praying about it and to make a long story short came to the conclusion that I should go back to Kenya and help Jim with his work.

Jim works with The Masters Mission at a place called Loiyangalani in Northern Kenya. One of the ministries that they are working on there is Grace Oasis, a Christian children’s boarding home. This will be my primary reason to go there. I will be able to focus on this project to help take some of the burden off of Jim while he attends to other work. As the church there has grown they are also in the middle of building a new church building to handle the crowd.  It is waiting for a roof right now and I will be helping with that project also. This is the physical work that I will be helping with but much more important is the spiritual opportunities there. I am really looking forward to getting to know the local workers and Christians there and working with them.
As it works out Jim is coming to the US for a few weeks and I will be returning to Kenya with him Feb. 19th. This will help simplify the process of getting through Nairobi and up to
Loiyangalani. I am scheduled to be there for six months. Right now I am helping dad with some construction work at the SIM office in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In order for this to work I need a team behind me for both prayer and financial support. Prayer support is a critical part of any work. I would appreciate if you would keep me in your prayers as I step out and undertake this journey. There are some specific prayer requests that I have for this trip.

  • Pray for Kenya and the political problems there.
  • Pray for protection during travel as well as the time there.
  • Pray for good health.
  • Pray for me personally that I will be open to God’s guiding and that my testimony will be a good witness to Him.
  • Pray for the work of the team in Kenya that God will really bless and use it for His glory.
  • Pray for me as I will be working on learning the language in order to be more effective.
  • Please pray that God will provide the funding needed for this trip.

As you know trips like this do have a financial cost both for the transportation and the work itself. All of my finances for my time in Kenya will be handled through The Master’s Mission.  If you have any questions about my specific needs, please contact me.

I would love to hear from any of you if you have any questions about this trip or want to know more about the work.

Thank you and God bless,

Kevin Kejr
